2002 US Census on poverty

“Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not being able to go to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time. Poverty is powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom.”

Poverty

RDA is committed to supporting the efforts of public agencies and non-profit organizations that serve those community members who are most vulnerable—the poor. The poverty rate does not really tell us who is poor. For that, it is necessary to examine poverty levels for particular groups.

Poverty robs us of our potential, relinquishes our communities to decay and despair and creates hopelessness among individuals who are unfortunate enough to be born into its class or arrive there by misfortune or disease.

At RDA, we believe that public institutions and non-profit organizations are the front line providers of services and supports to help poor people rise out of poverty and obtain a better life. To that end we have worked on a wide variety of projects, including the following:

  • Homeless Projects
  • Affordable Housing
  • Economic development
